Some time back I found a tip that would shorten the window for all of the dials. (xtrans, ytrans, etc). After using it this way I've come to not like it, but I can't find out what I did or how to revert back to orignal display.
Can anyone help

Not sure, how to do it besides uninstalling and reinstalling Poser.

Have you tried grabbing the bottom right corner of the Parameter Dials pane with the mouse and dragging down?

Otherwise it it possibly a hack to the "poser.rsr" file. Check in your Poser directory to see if you made a backup of the "poser.rsr" file before changing it, and restore the backup if you did.

EDIT another possiblilty is that it is a hack to one of the parmdial*.xml files under C:\Program Files\Curious Labs\Poser 5\Runtime\ui or wherever your Poser is
