| | Extrusion is the process by which a facet or edge is pulled into a higher dimension creating a new subobject segment.
For instance, if an edge is extruded, it's pulled into the shape of a facet (and thus becomes one). If a quad polygon is extruded, it is expanded into a box (or most of one).
Extrusion also applies to the idea of splines, in which a spline shape can be extruded to form a mesh.
