Patch modelling is a form of prcedural surface? modelling in which various 'patches' are placed and welded together. The corners of these patches work similarly to the vertices of Bezier curves and the interior of each patch can usually be reshaped as well.

Patch modelling might be described as being similar to modelling using sails (like the ones on a sailing ship). You tie the sails into place at the corners and then blow wind into them to form the shape. The technique is very popular for modelling both organic shapes and drapery.

While technically a form of procedural surface, patch modelling generally gives the creator a higher degree of output polygon control than approaches such as NURBS.
